Has the Time Finally Arrived?

Just because you don't report the fraud doesn't mean it's not there. The U.S. is a different market but the fraud figures never really stacked up - someone is hiding something.

The cost of introducing EMV would now be more than offset by the savings in fraud. And only by introducing EMV do card issuers stand a chance of introducing new and innovative service to their customers.

Visa cites m-payments as it pushes US to EMV

Visa has signalled its determination to push the United States into abandoning mag-stripe cards in favour of EMV chip technology; a move it says will not only improve security but accelerate the adoption of contactless mobile payments. (see here for full story).

Introduction

The EMV-GUYS earned their stripes implementing EMV in the UK and remember the trials and tribulations experienced along the way.

We have been lying in wait for the U.S. to finally wake up and realise that they are fast becoming a third world country as far as payments are concerned. The rest of the world is continuing down the EMV route with fortunes being spent in the U.S. trying to ring the last drop of life blood out of magnetic stripe technology.

End to End encryption is a waste of time, effort and money. It's like putting a steel door on a tent - there's no point in protecting the transport medium if the token you are using is insecure.

March 2012 - UK card fraud losses fall to 11-year low

Fraud losses on UK debit and credit cards fell seven per cent in 2011 to £341 million, an 11-year low, according to figures from the UK Cards Association.
